Highly respected Tibetan leader, Tulku Hungkar Dorje Rinpoche, died under suspicious circumstances in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, in late March.
Tulku Hungkar Dorje, 56, had reportedly sought refuge in Vietnam after facing interrogation by Chinese officials in August 2024, allegedly linked to not providing a sufficiently warm reception for the Chinese government-appointed Panchen Lama, and his commitment to preserving Tibetan religion, culture, and language through independent schools.
It is believed he was arrested in Vietnam in late March in an alleged joint operation involving Vietnamese police and Chinese agents and died shortly thereafter while in custody.
We are extremely concerned about what happened and need answers from the Vietnamese government.
We need you to join us in calling on the Vietnamese government to conduct a full and independent investigation into his death and the immediate return of his body to his family.
